Capturing this wedding was one of the highlights of my summer.
Cassie and I met the second day of my freshman year of college and we became roommates our senior year.
Cassie is one of the most independently, fierce women that I know. Therefore I distinctly remember the day she nearly caused me to drive off the road by declaring her desire to get married. A year later, she told me she’d met someone.
As only two of the most unique people can do, Cassie and Lee managed to keep their relationship secret for weeks. Admittedly a sharp feat at our tiny Christian college.
It was beautiful to watch their relationship develop as they learned more about one another and how to make love work in life, all while entertaining their dreams and supporting one another in the ups and downs.
I very clearly remember the day Lee told me he was planning on proposing to Cassie.
I’ve learned over the years I am not good at keeping secrets.
My expressions say everything, so I knew I was going to have to take extra strides to keep this one. So I made up lame excuses to avoid my darling roommate and hide over at friend’s apartments.
The day before Lee was to propose, I was beyond excited. But the day hadn’t arrived yet!
Cassie and I ended up staying up late to choose an outfit for her date the next day. Digging through my closet to find something “cute” but still casual and totally Cassie.
Despite my best efforts, I swore she knew what was happening and I was a complete nervous wreck.
Luckily for me, she was completely unaware and the proposal was beautiful.
We all spent the next few months with boxes and boxes of china dinnerware Cassie and Lee had discovered at a church yard sale. Literally filling up all the space in our living room closet awaiting their wedding day.
Every detail of their wedding spoke to their planning and the love that friends and family shared in creating the space for their love to grow.
And so, like every great beginning to a love story, we know Cassie and Lee will be surrounded in love and support as they grow old together.
Mark 10:9: “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
